The Retail Zone will provide a wide range of shops, kiosks and more to meet resident and tourist demands. The corridors will be filled with lots of natural light and the zone will be culturally designed to enhance the views and allow full integration with the other zones in the development.
The Boutique hotel and spa, together with the nearby chalet, will attract additional visitors to the area. The hotel will be connected with the Traditional Souq and will be accessible by water through Al Maqtaa Canal.
Union Plaza & Open Plaza
Union plaza represents the heart of the project, as it is adorned with seven water formations and green areas in the middle of the open area and extending from it the rest of the open squares area and it consists of the courtyard and squares that are integrated smoothly and in a wonderful style to form an integral part of the shopping experience and the artisan exhibition. The covered courtyards and corridors create a diverse environment and spacious areas that can be used at all times of the year. These squares merge landscapes within and around the site in a wonderful artistic style that is in harmony with the heritage identity of the souk and hints at visitors to participate and enjoy the landscapes and the New Souq Oasis. The open areas are built and designed through pathways and alleys that are completely designated for pedestrians, with a design inspired by the spirit of the place, which encourages interaction and social communication.
Food & Beverage
The main Food & Beverage outlet area will be located along the Waterfront, Where visitors may arrive by water-taxi, connecting the area to the new development of The Canal Project. Open theatre and music events will enliven this unique setting for a diverse mix of Emirati and International restaurants and cafes. The activated roof spaces additional outdoor will provide areas through landscaping and/or terracing, enhancing the view of the Maqtaa Canal.
The Edutainment zone will provide new types of digital and social entertainment, including cultural displays, performance art, film and music as well as dedicated areas for entertainment and leisure activities incorporating community gathering in squares and plazas that will appeal to both residents and tourists.
The Heritage Market
The Heritage Market zone of the Traditional Souq is considered to be the heart of the entire project. It reflects the sense of Emirati history by having the most intricate architectural elements which are inspired by the coastal architectural heritage of Abu Dhabi. The Market will be offering goods reflecting Emirati culture and various traditional goods including antiques, beads, clothing, houseware, spices, jewelry and souvenirs, as well as traditional clothing such as Abayas and Kandouras. The Market will also feature traditional Emirati activities such as handicrafts, falconry and Al Sadu weaving, in addition to pearl, sword and bisht making. This will enable visitors to get a hands-on experience of the Emirati way of life.
